Clayton "Ben" Smith III DDS

I am a second generation dentist and Wilmington native. I graduated from New Hanover High School in 1982. After high school I pursued a professional fishing career for 3 years. I received my Bachelor's of Art degree and completed dental school at UNC-CH. I started practicing dentistry in 1994 at the same office my dad opened in 1966. I began my dental career in 1970 with an Oral Surgeon in Tennessee as a dental assistant. I moved to Virginia and began working for a General Dentist. Later moved to Wilmington, NC in 1988 and began my employment with Dr. Clayton Smith Jr. and continued my employment with Clayton Smith III as a scheduling coordinator. I love meeting and talking to new people and seeing beautiful smiles!

I am originally from Baltimore, MD. I graduated from University North Carolina at Wilmington with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management. I started working for Dr. Clayton Smith III in 2002. I have a strong passion for dentistry. I am dedicated to addressing the needs of our patients, whether you need to schedule an appointment, discuss a bill, or have questions regarding treatment, I am here and willing to help. I have been in dentistry since 1995 starting in front office working my way to clinical. I attended dental assisting school in 2005 & dental hygiene in 2006 both at Cape Fear Community College. I graduated in 2006 as a CDA and receiving my RDH license in 2008 after my boards were completed shortly after graduation. I began dental assisting with Dr. Smith's dad in 1987, and continued my career with Dr. Ben in 1994. I was provided an incredible on the job training experience and have enjoyed the continuing education path that we maintain in order to provide the best care for our patients. One of the things I enjoy most about my job is the relationship I have established not only with my co-workers but also our patients.

I began my career in dentistry in 1981 as an assistant and have been with Dr. Ben since 2008. In my years of assisting, I have worked as an assistant in orthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, periodontics, and general dentistry. This diverse scope of assisting enables me to help patients with their understanding of all treatment options.

I have been in the field of dentistry since 1985. I was a Dental Assistant from 1985 until 1991. After moving to the United States in 2001. I continued my education and graduated from Cape Fear Community College as a Registered Dental Hygienist. My favorite aspect of dentistry is the daily care I provide to my patients along with the challenges the practice and the profession brings.
